Keeping fit and raising money
Well it seemed like a good idea to get a bit fitter and help raise some money for charity. Having been to work at a donkey rescue in Spain a couple of years ago and seen what a pitiful state some of the donkeys were in even in this relatively civilised country I though it would be nice to try and raise some money towards improving their welfare.
Who knows with the way the price of petrol is going we return to using them to carry our shopping home here again, before too much longer!
I know you are asking why not a dog charity? Well over the past few years we have raised money for many of the dog charities and I guess if I had a bit of land the first four legged occupant after the dogs would be a donkey. They are such funny adorable characters and I guess I have read too many ‘Minack chronicles’.
So I set out to look for a challenge that would fit in with my hectic life and that I could do with at least the younger of my dogs. Walking was a fairly obvious choice, but where? Mountains are a long way away so there is the time and expense of travelling. Linier routes present the problem of either walking each section twice or finding another form of transport to get back to where you started. Also walking across country you never quite know if you can get a dog through a stile or over a given fence. I started wondering about just how many redways there are in Milton Keynes. A little research quickly revealed there to be 180 miles – sounds quite a challenge. But local so if I spread it over 10 weeks that is 18 miles a week. About 13 more than I normally walk in a week….
